South African retiree converts Fiat Uno into micro motorhome for travels

South African manufacturer Trailpod has launched a lightweight off-road teardrop trailer. The Lite model starts at 420 kg (925 lbs), features a wood-free composite body and a galvanized chassis. Pricing begins at approximately $11,650 USD.

South African company Berg Offroad has expanded its caravan lineup with the CX4 model, designed for three to four people. The 17.5-foot-long caravan features a slide-out rear bedroom module with a queen-size bed, a hybrid bathroom, and a kitchen with a stove and fridge. The model, launched in December 2025, has a base price of ZAR 599,950 (approx. US$37,250).

The Motor Industry Workshop Association (Miwa) has issued safety advice for the upcoming South African festive season, when towing-related accidents typically increase. Key recommendations include pre-trip mechanical checks of trailers and caravans, adherence to legal weight limits and license requirements, and driving practices such as reduced speed and proper load balancing to prevent sway.
