The Salvar Oyambre platform has criticized a motorhome parking project on the edge of the Oyambre Natural Park in Cantabria, calling it a 'calculated assault' and pointing out incompatibility with the protected area Status. Meanwhile, in Almería, authorities closed motorhome parking lots on Cabo de Gata beaches to protect ecosystems.
The Salvar Oyambre platform has opposed the construction of a motorhome parking area in Guerra Mayor (San Vicente de la Barquera), on the edge of the Oyambre Natural Park. Activists called the project a 'calculated assault' on the protected area, encouraged by the Cantabrian government, and a 'consented deterioration' of the natural environment.
According to the organization, the facility is incompatible with the Status of a specially protected natural area, including its status as a Natura 2000 site of European importance. It is noted that the project is being promoted using simplifications under a recent Cantabrian law and has not yet undergone mandatory sectoral approvals. Activists believe the administrative simplification law favors tourism interests at the expense of territorial protection.
In another region of Spain, in Almería, authorities temporarily closed motorhome parking lots on the beaches of El Playazo and Isleta del Moro in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. The operation was carried out jointly by environmentalists and police to protect fragile coastal ecosystems from damage caused by uncontrolled vehicle parking.
