Compare countries and cities by VanSky score and pick your next stop Compare regions by VanSky score and pick your destination
A comparison of 403 cities in United States by VanSky score — how comfortable it is to travel in each today. We factor in temperature, wind, sun and conditions by the sea. Sort by any metric and pick your next stop. A comparison of 51 regions of United States by VanSky score — where it's most comfortable to travel right now. We factor in temperature, wind, sun and conditions by the sea.
The country score (0–100) is computed from all of its cities, not a single point. Cities are grouped into regions, and a region's score is the median of its cities so dense clusters don't outweigh sparse ones. Final score = 0.65 × “best areas” (80th percentile of regions) + 0.35 × “typical conditions” (median of regions), so one warm city can't push the whole country to 100. Each city's score blends warmth (feels-like), sun, rain and wind, adjusted for night temperature and, on the coast, the sea. Data: Open-Meteo, refreshed several times a day.
The scale above shows what share of the country's cities falls into each comfort band. “Best spot” is the most comfortable region or city this week; “typical conditions” is the median score across regions.

The City of Pineville is now offering RV sites at Lake Buhlow. The sites are available for up to three days at a time.
A four-year-old child died Sunday, July 12, after a motor home accident at Salt Point Campground in California. The California Highway Patrol reported that the driver, a family friend, attempted to pull forward but mistakenly put the RV in reverse, causing it to roll backward and trap the girl underneath. Firefighters used jacks to lift the vehicle, and the child was airlifted to Oakland Children's Hospital with major injuries, where she later died.
A severe storm in Florence County, South Carolina, overturned a camper, damaged multiple homes, and downed about a dozen power poles. Two people sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital. Firefighters extinguished a fire from the overturned camper. Authorities warn that downed power lines should be treated as live and dangerous.
A travel trailer was stolen from a driveway near 39th Ave SW and Graham in West Seattle on Sunday, July 12, around 8:30 p.m. Despite a hitch lock, a white utility van with a red stripe backed in, and two men hooked up the trailer and drove off within minutes. The stolen trailer is a 2021 Braxton Creek Bushwhacker Plus, 16-foot teardrop, license plate 31966AG, with a decal reading 'Patsy Cline'.
Aboard RV has unveiled the prototype of its T4 hybrid electric travel trailer, measuring 23 feet 8 inches in length and weighing 6,500 lbs empty. The model combines a hybrid-electric powertrain with an onboard range extender and smart towing technology, offering up to 7 days of off-grid capability. A notable design element is the bathroom entrance that doubles as a mudroom.
FOX Weather listed US national parks that permit dogs on trails. Shenandoah National Park offers over 500 miles of trails, including the Frazier Discovery Trail, and pet-friendly campgrounds and lodging. Acadia National Park allows dogs on most trails and carriage roads, except lakes that serve as public water supplies. North Cascades National Park only permits dogs on the Pacific Crest Trail, with mandatory B.A.R.K. rules: bagging waste, leash no longer than 6 feet, respecting wildlife, and knowing allowed areas.
