Lake District ‘amenity land’ plan refused over caravan fears

A plan to change the use of 26.7 hectares of agricultural land and woodland around Church Stile Caravan Park in the Lake District has been refused. Julius and Kirsten Manduell sought permission to create additional open space for guests, but the Lake District National Park Authority concluded it would effectively extend the existing camping and caravanning site, potentially allowing caravans and tents across the entire area without further planning. The authority cited significant encroachment into open countryside, harm to the tranquil character of the Wasdale landscape, and potential damage to ancient woodlands. The application was refused for five reasons, including landscape harm and failure to address biodiversity net gain.
