Estavayer-le-Lac: Long-term campers sue operator over replacement with luxury chalets

Long-term campers at the 'La Nouvelle Plage' campsite in Estavayer-le-Lac (Fribourg canton) have filed an appeal with the cantonal court against operator TCS's plans to replace their pitches with luxury glamping chalets. TCS, which bought the campsite in 2024, informed campers they must vacate by October 21. The new concept reduces seasonal pitches from over 100 to 20, with seasonal rent rising from about 2,500 to 6,500 francs plus 400 francs for winter storage. The 'IG Pro Camping' group challenges the zoning plan's approval, arguing that a detailed development plan is required for campsites over 5,000 sq m. The cantonal court procedure is pending, and the decision may be appealed to the Federal Court.

Farm parking for motorhomes: between demand and bureaucracy

Switzerland saw 110,000 registered motorhomes in 2023, a 50% increase since 2020, but only 104 official farm parking spots exist due to strict zoning laws. The Huber family in Birrhard (Aargau) has offered motorhome parking for nearly 20 years, recently obtaining permits for four spots after lengthy procedures. The spot costs 18 francs per night including electricity, contributing 5,000–7,000 francs annually to the farm through shop sales.
