Camper van crash on N9 near Alkmaar: three injured, including child

On the N9 ring road near Alkmaar (Netherlands), a camper van rear-ended a passenger car. Initial reports indicate the camper driver failed to notice the vehicle ahead. New kilometer charge in the Netherlands: how camper registration affects exemption

From July 1, 2026, the Netherlands introduces a kilometer charge for trucks (categories N2 and N3) on most highways and some other roads. Campers registered as 'Kampeerwagen (SA)' are exempt, regardless of weight (even over 3,500 kg). Owners of campers with foreign license plates must apply for exemption in advance via the official website, selecting 'Ander voertuig'. Checking registration via RDW is essential to avoid issues.

Burning caravan drives past restaurant, owner tries to extinguish

In Rijsbergen, Netherlands, on Thursday afternoon, a burning caravan drove past restaurant Flore. Owner Lars de Bruijn grabbed a fire extinguisher, smashed a window, and attempted to put out the fire, but the caravan was completely destroyed. The driver detached the trailer and drove the car away; no injuries were reported.
