Volkswagen updates Grand California: lithium batteries and solar panels for off-grid camping

Volkswagen has upgraded its largest campers, the Grand California 600 and 680, offering optional LiFePO batteries and an off-grid package with integrated solar panels. Forster presents motorhome with eight berths

European manufacturer Forster has updated the A 699 DVB model, which can accommodate up to eight people with a length of under seven metres. The starting price is €58,900. The model features a redesigned overcab section, a revised interior and increased headroom of 2.04 metres. Police stop motorhome without windows — driver said it was too hot

In Lippstadt, Germany, police stopped a motorhome that had no windshield and no side windows. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and said he was too hot. The vehicle was once a luxury model built by the now-defunct German manufacturer Bawemo, known for high-end motorhomes on Mercedes and Iveco chassis. Well-preserved Bawemo motorhomes are now collector's items, fetching up to half a million Swedish kronor.

Driver fined for camper without windscreen in Germany

Police in the Soest district stopped a 1970s–80s Bawemo camper near Lippstadt that had all its windows removed. The driver said he dismantled them to combat heat in the cabin and was not wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle was deemed technically unsafe. Further driving was banned and a substantial fine issued. The stop was part of a larger traffic operation aimed at reducing serious accidents.
