Camping Puchner in Feldkirchen, Austria, is gaining attention through a social media video made by the owner's son-in-law. The site, operating for about 25 years, offers 100 pitches, including 50 for seasonal campers and 30 for caravans and motorhomes. Guests mainly come from the region and Germany, as well as Australia, France, Canada, and Israel. Demand for camping has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Norbert Schluga senior, known as N2, died on 23 August 2026 at the age of 82. He expanded the family campsite in Obervellach into Austria's largest camping facility with nearly 700 pitches, introducing innovations such as heated sanitary facilities and winter camping. Together with his son, he grew the business until it was handed over to the EuroParcs group in 2021.
In July 2026, Carinthia recorded 2.6 million overnight stays, up four percentage points compared to July 2025. In the first half of the year, the region ranked second among Austrian federal states in camping overnight stays (about 655,000), behind Tyrol. Operators report an increase in new guests, including from Denmark, Czech Republic, Poland, and surprisingly from the UK and Ireland. Starting in November, a local tax of four euros per person per night will be introduced, causing some concern among campsite operators.
On the evening of August 24, a car caught fire on the A11 near Rosenbach. The 67-year-old driver managed to detach the caravan, which was unharmed. The car burned out completely; no injuries.
