Styrian roof tents boom

Roof tents for cars are becoming increasingly popular in Austria. The company Wilded from Gamlitz (southern Styria) develops and sells such tents worldwide, with demand remaining high: according to founder Nikolaus Musger, they regularly sell out during the year. The tents weigh between 30 and 80 kg, can be set up in minutes, and accommodate up to six people. Last year, Austria recorded a record number of around 8.8 million overnight stays at campsites, marking the fifth consecutive record year.

Camping in Tyrol: Between Mountains, Lakes and Modern Campsites

Tyrol has more than 100 campsites for summer and around 80 for winter. In summer 2025, Tyrolean campsites recorded nearly two million overnight stays, with many guests from Germany, the Netherlands and Austria. Many sites are being modernised and expanded, including glamping options. The Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, running from 28 August to 6 September, will feature more than 750 exhibitors.

Carinthia: camping among crystal lakes, nature and luxury glamping

Carinthia, in southern Austria, attracts tourists with over 100 campsites and about 16,000 equipped pitches. The region offers a variety of accommodation options, from traditional tents and motorhomes to glamping with luxury tents and chalets. Among more than 1,000 lakes, Wörthersee, Ossiacher See, Faaker See and Weissensee stand out, with water temperatures often exceeding 25 degrees in summer. Since June 2026, a direct flight from Rome to Klagenfurt has been operating, and the region is reachable by car from Venice, Udine, Trieste and Bologna in a few hours.

Falkensteiner Camping Wörthersee opens after modernization

Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG) and Stadtwerke Klagenfurt have officially opened the modernized Falkensteiner Camping Wörthersee campsite at Metnitzstrand. Around 3 million euros were invested in the site's renovation, including a new reception building and the CAMPO restaurant. Further expansion steps are planned. FMTG operates six campsites in Austria and Croatia and aims to develop the site into a leading camping destination in the Alps-Adriatic region.
