On Wednesday, a motorhome caught fire at a campsite in Krems, Austria. Two bystanders who tried to extinguish the flames and an elderly woman were hospitalized. The cause was a short circuit in the gas heater cable.
From June 2025, owners of motorhomes and caravans with gas systems must undergo a G607 inspection every two years. Missing it can result in fines of €15–€80 and increased risk of gas leaks and fires.
On the evening of May 27, a car and a motorhome collided on the B179 highway near Biberwier. According to the Tyrol control centre, the crash occurred around 5:00 p.m. Four people were injured, and a helicopter was dispatched to the scene.
The TV show 'Abenteuer Leben täglich' tested the Kabe Imperial 1000 TDL caravan, measuring 11.6 meters, which the manufacturer and trade press call one of the longest production caravans in Europe. Reporter Lothar Langehegermann assessed whether this oversized trailer is suitable for regular holidays, not just seasonal camping, and faced challenges during towing.
In summer 2025, Tyrolean campsites recorded nearly 2 million overnight stays. For 2026, the region focuses on glamping, natural settings, and modern family sites. New facilities include Mountain Camp Pitztal in Jerzens, the renovated Judenstein campsite near Innsbruck, and Lechtal Camping Vorderhornbach. Glamping areas have also opened at Zugspitz Resort, Ferienparadies Natterer See, and Gerhardhof.
On May 30, 2026, from 11:00 to 19:00, the A13 (Brenner) motorway, B182 road, and L38 road in Tyrol will be fully closed to through traffic due to a demonstration against traffic congestion. Authorities expect over 32,000 vehicles to be unable to pass. Drivers are advised to avoid travel through Tyrol that weekend. Alternative routes (Gotthard, San Bernardino, Reschen Pass, Felbertauern) may be congested and are not always suitable for motorhomes and caravans. Those who cannot postpone their trip are advised to stop in the region (e.g., Innsbruck or the Po Valley) and continue after restrictions are lifted.
