In the commune of Mees (Landes), 80 traveller caravans have illegally set up on the municipal football pitch. The mayor's office cancelled the weekend's festivities, citing precautionary measures and the safety of residents, volunteers and guests. The gendarmerie is patrolling to maintain public order. The festival will be rescheduled once the situation stabilises.
In Villeneuve-de-Rivière, a group of 200 caravans illegally occupied the sports complex after forcing the gates. The mayor obtained a court eviction order, and the caravans left after a week. Due to damage to the pitch and a court ban, the traditional rugby league tournament has been postponed until late summer.
In Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), on 27 May 2026, police evicted around 150 caravans belonging to an evangelical community that had illegally occupied the racecourse car park. Other sources report 70 caravans and 80 vehicles. The eviction was based on a prefectural decree after the mayor's office reported numerous violations and damage. Around 100 police officers, including CRS, were mobilised, and traffic in the area was blocked. This was the first time the car park had been occupied by caravans.
