Incident in Abbotsford
On April 14, 2026, police in Abbotsford, British Columbia, arrested a couple after an attempt to swap seats in a moving motorhome. According to police, a 60-year-old man with a suspended license was driving the motorhome. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply and caused a minor collision with another car. During the pursuit, the man switched places with a 51-year-old woman who had a valid driver's license to avoid arrest.
Charges and consequences
Both individuals have been charged with disobeying police and obstructing justice. The motorhome was impounded.
Other incidents
On the same day, April 19, a pickup truck collided with a motorhome in Cobourg, Ontario. The pickup driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Two people in the motorhome were freed by rescuers. Westbound traffic on Elgin Street was closed for about an hour.
Earlier, on March 2, an explosion and fire destroyed the travel trailer of 68-year-old Sylvia Gillies at the Aloha RV Park in Abbotsford. She suffered severe burns and was airlifted to hospital. A fundraiser has been organized to support her recovery and cover her dog's medical expenses.
