Wonju cancels caravan parking lot near Baram-mori Park after residents' protests

The Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) and the Donghae City Facilities Management Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding on gas safety at campsites. The agreement aims to prevent accidents such as carbon monoxide poisoning and improper handling of butane canisters. It covers four public campsites and will run until July 2028.

The second Mangsang Auto Camping Site has opened in Donghae, South Korea. Located adjacent to Mangsang Beach, the site offers 40 dedicated vehicle camping spots on a 29,256 m² lot. Initially, 20 spots will operate to ensure safety and operational stability. Fees: peak season 45,000 won, off-peak weekends 27,000 won, weekdays 22,000 won.

In South Korea, interest in portable cooling fans for camping and campervan use is increasing. These devices are gaining attention as supplementary cooling equipment due to their mobility and ability to direct airflow. Key selection factors include power source, compatibility with portable batteries, and power consumption. Experts advise combining fan use with shade and ventilation.

Yunjerim Auto Camping Site in Boseong County, South Jeolla Province, is located in a forest between Mount Choamsan and Mount Juwolsan. The walk from the parking lot to the center takes about 10 minutes; a stroll around the area takes about 30 minutes. Parking capacity is about 50 vehicles. Operating hours are 9:00–18:00, subject to seasonal changes. Entrance fees vary by campsite and are confirmed upon booking.

Authorities of South Korean city Gwacheon announced expanded discounts for residents visiting campsites and tourist attractions in sister cities Tongyeong, Gapyeong and Donghae. Discounts reach up to 50%.

According to CarChart AI, only 1,361 new camper vehicles (motorhomes and caravans) were registered in South Korea in 2025, an 81.4% drop from the 2021 peak of 7,300 units. Market value based on new purchase prices fell from 347.24 billion won in 2021 to 76.44 billion won in 2025 (a 78% decline). In the first half of 2026, just 397 units worth 24.59 billion won were registered. The downturn is attributed to the end of the pandemic boom, resumption of overseas travel, high interest rates, and inflation. Consumers are shifting to low-cost, minimalist camping. Electric campers based on PBV platforms (Hyundai ST1, Kia PV5) are seen as a potential revival driver, offering high-power appliances without a generator.
