Compare countries and cities by VanSky score and pick your next stop Compare regions by VanSky score and pick your destination
A comparison of 35 cities in Austria by VanSky score — how comfortable it is to travel in each today. We factor in temperature, wind, sun and conditions by the sea. Sort by any metric and pick your next stop. A comparison of 8 regions of Austria by VanSky score — where it's most comfortable to travel right now. We factor in temperature, wind, sun and conditions by the sea.
The country score (0–100) is computed from all of its cities, not a single point. Cities are grouped into regions, and a region's score is the median of its cities so dense clusters don't outweigh sparse ones. Final score = 0.65 × “best areas” (80th percentile of regions) + 0.35 × “typical conditions” (median of regions), so one warm city can't push the whole country to 100. Each city's score blends warmth (feels-like), sun, rain and wind, adjusted for night temperature and, on the coast, the sea. Data: Open-Meteo, refreshed several times a day.
The scale above shows what share of the country's cities falls into each comfort band. “Best spot” is the most comfortable region or city this week; “typical conditions” is the median score across regions.

The Sonnencamp campsite at Lake Gösselsdorfersee in Carinthia is positioning itself as a quiet retreat for nature lovers and families. Located in the Sablatnig-Moor nature reserve, it offers an alternative to mass tourism with a focus on personal interaction and family atmosphere. The campsite attracts both tourists from other federal states and locals, including residents of Graz, who are rediscovering the region.
On May 13 or 14, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on the A1 highway in Austria between the Traun exit and Ansfelden station towards Vienna, involving a car, a truck, a motorhome and a scheduled bus. According to police, the accident was caused by a car braking sharply in front of the truck; the truck's emergency braking system stopped it, but the following motorhome and bus could not react in time. Reports indicate 14 or 15 injuries, with three serious (the motorhome driver, his wife and one passenger) and the rest minor. Traffic towards Vienna was fully closed from 16:55 to 18:20.
On June 27, 2026, a three-axle motorhome caught fire while driving on the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn in Styria, Austria, for reasons still unknown. The driver managed to pull over onto the hard shoulder, and both occupants and their two dogs escaped unharmed. The fire was spotted by a police helicopter crew, who alerted emergency services. By the time firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully ablaze. Crews used foam and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire, which also spread to the roadside embankment. Traffic towards Linz was temporarily closed; the operation lasted about 90 minutes.
On the B178 in Waidring, a 78-year-old motorhome driver failed to notice an approaching caravan. The 60-year-old caravan driver swerved into the oncoming lane, but the trailer overturned and slid 100 meters. No injuries were reported.
On June 27, 2026, a motorhome with a German couple and two dogs caught fire on the A9 Pyhrnautobahn in Austria. The driver managed to pull onto the hard shoulder and evacuate everyone before firefighters arrived. The vehicle was completely destroyed; traffic was blocked until 5:00 PM.
