Owners of Clacton Pier expand presence by opening new luxury holiday park

A business owner in Bournemouth, UK, who spent over six months homeless while living in a campervan, is speaking out to encourage others to seek help early. Daisy, along with her husband, ran a personal training business but faced financial setbacks, forcing them to live in a campervan across campsites. After being referred to BCP Council, she learned about available support. The council emphasizes that hidden homelessness can affect more people than realized and urges those at risk to contact the Homelessness Early Prevention Team.

Residents of Blackpool are urging the council to act over the growing number of camper vans parked on the promenade, saying they block sea views, narrow traffic lanes and hinder emergency vehicles. Resident Sloman said she was assured over 12 months ago that double yellow lines would be painted, but this has not happened. She also suggested charging for parking to discourage camper vans. In July 2024, Lancashire County Council introduced rules banning motorhomes from overnight parking along St Annes and Lytham promenade.

A Lake District campsite previously refused over fears campers could use the wrong toilets has been approved after introducing key-coded doors, wristbands, and wardens. The temporary site at Pooley Bridge will operate up to 60 days a year with no more than 50 pitches. Wastewater will be collected and taken to a treatment works outside the nutrient-neutrality catchment of the River Eden.

A High Court injunction was granted on July 29 to Tendring Council and Essex County Council to prevent unauthorised camping on Clacton seafront during the airshow. The order, in force from August 20 to September 5, prohibits tents, caravans, camper vans, and motorhomes on specified land and roads. Breach could lead to contempt of court proceedings, including fines, imprisonment, or asset seizure. The airshow on August 27-28 will feature the Red Arrows and a twilight display.

Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed that reconstruction of Ver Meadows caravan park in Redbourn, damaged by a major fire on July 12, 2025, will begin in mid-August 2026. The fire affected 15 of the 18 pitches. The cause remains undetermined, but investigators ruled out technical faults and suggested a human act. Construction is expected to take about 23 weeks, after which residents can return.
