On the Costa Blanca coast (Spain), a massive expansion of campsites is underway. In the Marina Baixa region, about 10 projects are being implemented that could double current capacity. The largest project in La Nucía includes 126 cabins and 468 pitches for motorhomes and caravans. A similar facility is being built in Alfaz del Pi with 159 cabins and 375 pitches. The expansion is driven by rising demand: in 2025, occupancy of Spanish campsites increased by 3%.

At the same time, municipalities in the Valencia region are investing in motorhome campsites to stop depopulation and stimulate local business. The projects are supported by the autonomous government. In 2025, the company Aquiestoy Caravaning completed seven such projects. Some sites have abolished free schemes to ensure sustainable management.

Norwegian municipalities consider basic parking for motorhomes

The number of motorhomes in Norway is increasing, including foreign tourists, creating demand for simple overnight spots. The editor of Bobilverden.no suggests municipalities reserve some regular parking spaces for motorhomes, adding signs and ensuring access to dump stations. This would cater to owners with different budgets without building expensive campsites.

What's the deal with big cities and motorhomes?

A review of motorhome facilities in Norway's ten largest cities reveals significant challenges for visitors, particularly regarding central, year-round parking. While cities like Fredrikstad, Ålesund, and Tønsberg offer good, accessible facilities, Oslo and Trondheim face criticism for limited central options and winter closures. The overall assessment is that most major cities have not adequately catered to this growing visitor segment, with high land prices near city centers being a key obstacle.

Gipuzkoa Provincial Council rejects motorhome parking project in Igara

The Department of Territorial Planning of Gipuzkoa denied the declaration of 'public interest' for a private motorhome parking project in the Igara area on non-developable land. The resolution states that neither sectoral legislation nor territorial planning considers such a facility to be of public interest, and that similar services can be located in urban areas, as already done in Donostia. The project included 80 spaces with water supply and gray/black water disposal, but authorities insist that placement on non-developable land requires a direct functional link to rural areas, which is not the case here.

BNG Monforte calls for expansion and improvement of motorhome area

The BNG party in Monforte will present a motion at the next municipal plenary session requesting the expansion and upgrade of the existing motorhome area. The current facility, with about 20 spaces, is considered insufficient given the growth of motorhome tourism and the town's role as the capital of the Ribeira Sacra region. The party highlights a lack of basic services such as water supply, dump station, lighting, and electrical hookups, which limits visitor stays. According to BNG, inaction would mean losing economic opportunities, as some visitors are forced to move to other municipalities due to lack of space or adequate services.
