Travellers with motorhomes or caravans can assess wildfire risks before departure and check insurance coverage. This is especially relevant on the Atlantic coast of southwestern France, where parts of Landes and Gironde south of Bordeaux are under the highest warning level (5 out of 5). It is recommended to check the route and campsite via government portals, the Foreign Office and the FR-Alert system. Insurance: Kfz-Haftpflicht covers only third-party damage, Teilkasko or Vollkasko covers the own vehicle, while household insurance often does not apply; contents insurance is needed for belongings. Private liability (at least 15 million euros) protects against financial consequences of negligent fire behaviour.
