Expensive parking and budget camper: how to save on travel in 2026

The cost of a motorhome trip to France in 2026 has increased by approximately 400 euros compared to 2025, mainly due to higher road tax and fuel prices. Road tax for motorhomes doubled from 25% to 50% of the standard rate. For a diesel motorhome weighing about 2,950 kg in Utrecht, the quarterly tax is now 562 euros, up from 281 euros in 2025. Diesel prices rose from 1.80 to 2.49 euros per liter in the Netherlands.
