South Korea: RV parking complaints surge 20%, Gangneung launches crackdown

In Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, a camping trailer mounted a curb and tilted heavily near the entrance of Gyeongsang National University Hospital. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined. The event has renewed focus on trailer towing safety and the issue of long-term roadside parking of such vehicles.

Dutch company Vantrack has developed the LightCamp based on the Kia PV5 Passenger. The system of removable modules allows the vehicle to be used as a 5-seat electric van on weekdays and as a 4-berth camper on weekends. It features a 71.2 kWh battery, a range of 358 km, and V2L capability delivering up to 3.6 kW for external equipment. The price before tax incentives starts at 47.09 million won.

Solbat Sports Park Auto Camping (Solbat Sports Park Auto Camping) in Gangwon Province, South Korea, offers camping on a site of about 20,000 sq m. The campground is located at 61 Dogok-ro 14-gil, Gonggeun-myeon, Hoengseong County. Parking is available for about 50 vehicles. Entrance fees vary by site size and number of people. Byeonsanbando National Park in Buan County, South Korea, has added hanok-style caravans at Jiksocheon Campground, which opened in May 2026. The facility comprises 30 caravans and 50 vehicle camping sites. The park, designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2023, features coastal cliffs like Chaeseokgang and Jeokbyeokgang, Jikso Waterfall, and the fir tree path at Naesosa Temple.

At the Tokyo Camping Car Show 2026, four Japanese camper van converters, official Kia dealers, presented their versions of the new Kia PV5 electric minivan. The 4.7-metre-long model features a sliding door and is positioned as an alternative to the Toyota HiAce for sleeping in the car.

Danho Sand Park, a recreational facility in Andong, South Korea, will partially reopen on July 16 after a 2.6 billion won renovation. The former foot volleyball court has been converted into a children's water play area and playground, and the basketball court into a 6-hole mini golf course and lawn. Camping decks have been expanded from 3×6 m to 5×8 m to accommodate large family tents. Reservations for August will open on July 14 at 9 PM via the park's website.
