Latvian Caravan Club Season Closing 2026

Start date
18-20 September 2026
Location
Metsaluige Camping, Kabli

About

The Latvian Caravan Club wraps up the 2026 caravan season with a themed weekend under the motto "Professions. One weekend — a thousand possibilities". Participants are invited to leave their everyday job behind and turn up as the person they dreamed of becoming as a child: firefighter, pilot, doctor, police officer, chef, builder or astronaut. Costumes may be serious, funny, crazy or completely unexpected — imagination is the only requirement.

For the first time the season closing takes place not in Latvia but in Estonia, a short drive from the Latvian border. Metsaluige Camping was named Estonia's best campsite by ACSI in 2026 and offers a spacious green area near the sea, comfortable pitches for motorhomes and caravans, a restaurant, sauna and swimming pool.

Programme highlights

  • Saturday bike ride to the Kabli coast — a relaxed group ride along forest and coastal trails and a nature path. September is the peak of the autumn bird migration, and if the weather and the research schedule allow, the group may get to watch bird ringing at the Kabli Bird Station, where ornithologists explain how ringing helps track migration routes. This is never scheduled for visitors in advance, so it is a bonus rather than a guarantee.
  • Saturday evening with La Luna — a live performance by the Estonian band, with international hits and Latin American music, dancing until late.
  • Club traditions — the "Professions" costume contest, the prize lottery (tickets €1) and the traditional Saturday club lunch.

What the fee includes

  • Camping pitch for a motorhome or caravan
  • Electricity hookup for everyday use
  • Showers, toilets, cassette disposal point and drinking water
  • Full event programme and entertainment
  • Traditional club lunch on Saturday
  • Access to the sauna and swimming pool on Friday and Saturday
  • The option to take part in the club raffle

Estonians register SUVs as motorhomes to lower vehicle registration fee

SUV owners in Estonia are re-registering their vehicles as motorhomes to avoid high registration fees under the Motor Vehicle Tax Act effective January 2025. The law exempts motorhomes from weight-based fee calculations. For instance, registering a BMW X7 as a motorhome reduces the fee from €6,000 to €2,400. The Transport Administration says it cannot intervene if EU requirements are met, while former Finance Minister Mart Võrklaev calls for regulatory changes.

Motorhome sales in Estonia break records

According to Citadele Leasing, the volume of financing for motorhome purchases in Estonia increased by 85% in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. The market has already surpassed the figures of the record year 2024. Growth is attributed to the pandemic, geopolitical instability, and flight disruptions. Many buyers are young families and entrepreneurs, with prices for new models starting at €75,000.
