Utrecht prepares for summer holidays, but 'big rush is yet to come'

Camping De Boomgaard in Bunnik is gradually filling up with holidaymakers, though the peak is expected after schools close on Friday. The campsite owner notes that more Dutch people are choosing to stay in the Netherlands due to warm weather. At a storage facility in Maarssen, preparations are underway for a mass exodus: most campers and caravans are being picked up on Monday and Tuesday.

Scan car in Maastricht also fines caravans

In Maastricht, automated scan cars issue penalty assessments not only for unpaid parking of cars but also for caravans. The Maastricht van NU party has received complaints and wants the rules reviewed, proposing an exemption for caravans, folding trailers and campers. Politician Jo Smeets noted that caravan owners cannot obtain a parking permit because trailers often have a different license plate, and even if the plate matches but the caravan is not attached to the car, separate payment is required. The party suggests allowing free parking of a caravan in front of a home for up to three days.
