Australian court rejects demolition over caravan garage height dispute

The Supreme Court of Victoria ruled that demolition and rebuilding are not proportionate damages even when a builder breaches contract. In Stanley v EWH Constructions West Pty Ltd [2025] VSC 699, the garage floor was built lower than specified, preventing the owners from moving their caravan through it. Rectification costs exceeded A$650,000, but the garage remained structurally sound and functional for ordinary vehicles. The court found the cost disproportionate and remitted the case for assessment of loss of amenity and caravan storage costs.

Four new Tiny Houses with vineyard views have arrived in Coonawarra

Coonawarra Bush Holiday Park in South Australia has added four new Tiny Houses, including two single-storey and two double-storey units. Perched on a hill, they offer views of vineyards and bushland. Each includes a queen bed, kitchenette, bathroom, air conditioning, and a private fire drum. The park also offers glamping tents, cabins, caravan sites, and camping.

Electric camper and round-Australia trip

Clive Attwater and his partner Sue have embarked on a round-Australia trip in an electric camper based on the Farizon SV van. The couple plans to follow a figure-eight route starting from Hobart, passing through Victoria, South Australia, Alice Springs, Darwin, Western Australia, the Nullarbor, Townsville, and the east coast. The camper is equipped with solar panels, a domestic battery, and a fully electric kitchen. The trip aims to demonstrate the feasibility of long-distance electric travel and to inform campground operators about preparing for electric vehicle charging. The cargo van costs between €43,000 and €49,000, with conversion adding €18,000 to €30,500.

Toyota Land Cruiser 78 becomes camper for 5,499 AUD — Summit Vans drops pop-top

Australian builder Summit Vans has introduced a conversion kit for the Toyota Land Cruiser 78 Troop Carrier that does not require a pop-top roof. The base furniture kit costs 5,499 AUD and excludes a fridge, battery, water system and installation. The module includes an L-shaped bench that converts into a 1,910x965 mm bed and a bamboo worktop. Factory assembly in Wollongong starts at 8,499 AUD, with a production lead time of three to four weeks. The vehicle is cramped for full-time living: standing height is not possible inside, and the bed is mainly for one person. However, it retains standard height and can still be used as a regular off-roader between trips.

Electric campervan pioneers caught short and need a tow on first lap of Australia

Clive and Anne Attwater, pioneers of electric campervan travel, ran out of charge 200 meters short of a hill crest that would have allowed them to coast to a charger in Burra, Australia. They called for a tow truck. Clive admitted fault, having ignored his own 'Always Be Charging' rule. Their campervan Lucy averages 242 km of range, varying from 170 to 346 km depending on conditions.
