France introduces paid motorhome parking: new stations and protests

Camp’Us has released a free guide for traveling in motorhomes, campervans, and caravans during summer. The guide covers practical tips: adapting to heat, managing energy consumption, distinguishing parking and camping rules, and interpreting road signs. It includes a pre-departure checklist and a sample route in Brittany.

On June 28, 2026, a motorhome was completely destroyed by a fire on the N149 near Cissé. The fire started in the engine compartment; six firefighters could not save the vehicle but prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby field. An elderly couple and their dog escaped unharmed, but all personal belongings were lost. Traffic was blocked in both directions from 11:30 AM, partially restored by 1:00 PM with temporary traffic lights.

A fraud case involving a motorhome rental company in Narbonne has concluded after more than ten years of investigation. The father and daughter were found guilty of fraud and misuse of corporate assets. The daughter received a six-month suspended sentence and a €2,500 fine; the father received a two-year suspended sentence and a €4,000 fine. Each of the approximately 20 victims suffered losses ranging from €60,000 to €120,000.

A new motorhome area has opened in Le Tréport, France, exclusively for workers building the EPR reactors at the Penly nuclear power plant. The 55-pitch site with electrical hook-ups aims to prevent competition between workers and tourists for existing facilities. The €750,000 project was funded by EDF (€280,000), the city of Le Tréport, the Dieppe-Maritime agglomeration, and the Seine-Maritime department. Access requires a code provided by the employer.
