In ten years, the number of motorhomes and campervans in Spain rose from 48,000 to nearly 137,000, making it Europe's third-largest market. Infrastructure has not kept pace: ASEICAR estimates 2,000 dedicated service areas are missing, especially along the coast. In summer, up to 250,000 foreign campers join domestic ones, overwhelming small coastal towns where populations swell from 3,000 to 500,000. Municipalities are restricting parking and overnight stays, and a 2026 DGT instruction confirms their authority to limit parking duration.
