Storm on Gotland and overcrowded campsite in Borås: two camping news from Sweden

In Bergsviken, Sweden, three-year-old Hillevi Hieta went missing during a family dinner. About 1,000 people from several villages joined the search, which lasted several hours. The child was found sleeping in the family motorhome, curled up in a mattress and invisible to searchers. She was unharmed.

Around 12:40 on Tuesday, a motorhome left the road on the E45 in Johannisholm, about 20 km southwest of Mora. Rescue services and an ambulance are on scene. One person got out, while another remains in the vehicle. The motorhome is upright and did not roll over. No one was taken to hospital. Traffic was alternating during the rescue and was released by 13:30.

Swedish company Alpencamper has launched the Eco Slide Out, a compact camper designed to be towed by bicycles, including e-bikes, weighing only 52 kg. It features sliding side walls that expand into a rigid cabin for two people within minutes. The interior includes LED lighting powered by lithium batteries, a window with mosquito net and blind, and a separate space for a portable toilet.

Eleven motorhomes are parked on the asphalted area at Malmhamnsvägen, near the Cementa plant. The spot offers an unobstructed view of the water, the Kuststad residential area, and the cathedral spire in the distance. It is secluded yet relatively close to Luleå city centre. Vehicles are registered in Germany, Sweden, Norway, Austria and Finland.

Swedish Social Democrats have proposed raising the speed limit for caravans and trailers from 80 to 100 km/h, subject to technical requirements. The initiative aims to make domestic tourism cheaper and easier. Similar rules already exist in Germany, Denmark and Norway.

Varbergs Husbilar's revenue rose 30.1% to about SEK 27 million. Pre-tax profit was SEK 800,000, up from SEK 150,000 the previous year. Operating profit reached SEK 850,000, with an operating margin of 3.2% (1.5% in 2024). The company has 4 employees.
