The municipality of Cangas (Galicia) has started placing large stones in the coastal area to physically block illegal parking of cars and motorhomes. Mayor Araceli Gestido reminded that parking in the maritime-terrestrial protection zone is prohibited, but tourists and beachgoers ignored this. The stones are supplied free of charge by the local quarry Canteras del Rodal, and work has been ongoing for 15 days. Authorities stated they do not want 'this type of tourism that does not benefit the town' and plan to install stones on most beaches, including Areamilla, where stones were previously moved to allow re-parking.
