Gas locker

Gas & Heating Europe United Kingdom

Gas locker, gas bottle locker, propane locker, LPG locker, motorhome gas compartment, gas bottle compartment, EN 1949 gas locker

A gas locker is the sealed external compartment of a motorhome or caravan that stores the gas cylinders (propane, butane, or LPG). It has forced low-level ventilation (to clear heavier-than-air leaks), a gas-tight bulkhead to the habitation area, and is certified to EN 1949.

Sized for two 11 kg or 13 kg cylinders in mainland Europe; in the UK, more often two 6 kg or 7 kg Calor bottles. The door usually has an anti-theft lock. Inside: gas isolation taps and regulators; outside: a "No naked flame" sticker and sometimes a CO or gas detector. Nothing else may be stored in the locker. Standard items checked during a habitation check: vent integrity and pigtail hose condition.
