Petersberg Museum adds original East German caravan and DeLorean from 'Back to the Future'

Since July 21, 2026, an original 1988 East German caravan 'QEK-Junior' has been on display at the Museum Petersberg. The exhibit is part of the 'Mobilität im Wandel' show, which features toy cars and technology from the late 19th century. Owner Helmut Marx also plans to bring a DeLorean from the film 'Back to the Future' for a weekend. The museum is open daily except Mondays from 10:00 to 17:00.

Police stop motorhome in terrible condition

In Lippstadt, Germany, police stopped a motorhome that was missing all its windows, including the windshield. The driver was also not wearing a seatbelt. An inspection revealed numerous other defects, and the vehicle was deemed a 'pile of scrap metal on wheels.' It was impounded, and an administrative offense procedure was initiated. The motorhome turned out to be a rare Bawemo Streamliner or Bawemo 630, a model produced from the 1970s to the 1990s, which in good condition can fetch up to €50,000.

Motorhome tourists in Völklingen: mostly for the World Heritage site

A survey at two motorhome parking areas in Völklingen found that about 90% of guests come to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Völklinger Hütte. The rest are transit travellers from Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and other countries, staying one or two nights. Among those interviewed were a couple from the Lower Rhine, two families from Fulda and a retired couple from Lübeck, who noted the contrast between the region and familiar vineyards, as well as the similarity of locals to people from the Ruhr area.
