Nathalie, a mother of four, attended the motorhome and camper van show in Martigues, France, looking for a suitable vehicle for her family. She compared models, prices, and features, noting that finding a 6-berth motorhome is less common than a 4-berth. She was surprised by the high prices of used motorhomes, sometimes exceeding new ones. The show runs until May 31.
On 21 May 2026, the European Parliament voted to open negotiations on revising roadworthiness test rules. MEPs rejected the European Commission's proposal for annual inspections of vehicles over 10 years old, including motorhomes. The frequency remains every two years. However, the scope of inspections expands to include driver assistance systems, airbags, and automatic emergency braking. Vehicles with outstanding safety recalls will no longer pass the test.
The municipality of Outarville (Loiret) is discussing introducing fees for its free motorhome parking area, open since 2022. Complaints include monopolization of the only electrical outlet and misuse of the site for vehicle washing and tank filling. The issue was raised at the council meeting on March 31, 2026; a decision is expected at the next session.
The commune of Lestre (Manche, France) plans to adopt a municipal decree regulating motorhome parking along the shoreline. The move follows an influx of vehicles during the nesting season of the ringed plover (Charadrius hiaticula), a rare and protected bird species in Europe. Existing signs from the French Biodiversity Office do not explicitly prohibit parking, leading to repeated violations and conflicts. The decree must be approved by the municipal council, after which traffic signs will be installed within 15 days.
A caravan was stolen overnight from May 25 to 26 in Heiteren, parked on the street in front of the owner's home. A theft complaint has been filed. Additionally, a caravan fire in Luttenbach-près-Munster (likely accidental), multiple collisions involving bicycles, motorcycles, and cars, and vegetation fires were reported.
On Sunday, May 31, 2026, the first summer evangelical mission of travelers will arrive in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique). The large passage area is ready to accommodate 130 caravans. Five missions are planned for the 2026 season, each lasting two weeks, until August 23. Parking costs €3 per day per caravan.
