French singer Daniel Guichard, 77, purchased a luxury motorhome weighing over five tons. He uses it for travel across France, including Paris, where he parks at the Bois de Boulogne campsite. Guichard said he grew tired of shabby dressing rooms and hotels after 30 years of touring.
In late May, the first edition of the 'Rassemblement des 4 as' took place at the Gennes campsite in Maine-et-Loire, organized by three enthusiasts including Bruno Leroux. The event featured a large number of vintage caravans and drew attention from retro vehicle fans.
Since May 17, about a hundred caravans of travellers have been parked on the football field in Izier. Local residents are frustrated, recalling a similar incident last year when a group stayed for a month. They have submitted a petition with 79 signatures to the mayor and prefecture. The travellers argue that there are insufficient transit sites as required by the departmental plan.
On May 29, 2026, a car with Spanish occupants rear-ended a caravan towed by British motorists on the A10 motorway near Aiffres, close to Niort. A female passenger in the car towing the caravan was taken to Niort hospital in shock. The caravan was destroyed. Traffic in the Paris–Bordeaux direction was closed, causing queues up to 4 km. The road reopened around 3:30 PM.
A 20-year-old from Ugento (Lecce) was arrested in France along with his girlfriend after police found 85 kg of marijuana hidden in their camper at the Spain-France border. The young man had been missing for days, and his mother had been searching for him via social media. He is now in Perpignan prison awaiting trial.
On Pentecost Sunday, a group of travelers forcibly entered the sports complex in Beaumont-sur-Lèze (Haute-Garonne), sawing through gates to install a line of caravans. Mayor Olivier Carté described it as a 'commando operation' and suspects a leak of information. An oral agreement was reached for departure by June 7, but material damage and illegal water connections were reported. Residents express concern, and sports clubs now share a single field.
