Lakeshore council unanimously supported a notice of motion Tuesday from Ward 3 Coun. Kelsey Santarossa asking administration to create a new bylaw for recreational vehicle storage. The decision was made on July 15, 2026.
A woman died after a collision between an RV and a car on the Trans-Canada Highway near Whitbourne. The crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. on July 14, and the highway was closed until 1:00 a.m. on July 15. The 71-year-old female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene; a passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger of the RV were assessed by paramedics. The cause is under investigation.
Marion and Josef Geisler from Baunatal completed a six-week trip through Canada in a rented motorhome, covering 8,500 km. They flew from Frankfurt to Toronto on May 11, rented a motorhome, and traveled from the east coast to Vancouver. During the trip, they observed bald eagles and black bears, and attended a public viewing of the World Cup match Germany vs. Ivory Coast, declining to buy tickets due to high prices (€850–3,000).
Police have implemented a detour via the Route 80 overpass on- and off-ramps on the Trans-Canada Highway near Whitbourne following a serious collision involving at least three vehicles, including an RV. Traffic is moving slowly in both directions, and further lane closures are possible. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and follow police directions.
The municipality of Callander, Ontario, has extended a pilot program allowing overnight parking in two designated municipal lots for ice anglers for the 2026–2027 season. The general overnight parking ban remains in effect on all other streets and lots. Signs will be installed at the exempt lots to improve public awareness. After the season, staff will assess usage and enforcement data before council decides on making the program permanent.
Kamloops Fire Rescue crews responded to a structure fire near McDonald Park on the North Shore on the morning of July 13, 2026. The fire, reported around 8:45 a.m., involved an 18-foot motorhome and a 10-by-10-foot shed. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 9:00 a.m.; no injuries were reported.
