Austrian police discovered eight five-week-old puppies in a Romanian van during a checkpoint at Bruck an der Leitha on the A4 motorway. The animals were in an unsecured transport box without water or food for over seven hours, having traveled about 540 kilometers. The driver failed to provide required documents, including EU pet passports and transport permits. The puppies were handed over to an animal welfare organization, and charges were filed under the Animal Transport Act; a security deposit of 3,000 euros was collected.
Austrian police are searching for a man suspected of rental fraud. According to police, he rented a VW California Beach in Vienna and later an Audi RS6 in Lower Austria, then disappeared with both vehicles. The damage is estimated at over €180,000. The suspect is described as about 1.80 m tall, stocky, tattooed, and presented a Romanian passport and Spanish driver's license.
On the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Fusch (Pinzgau) on the afternoon of July 22, a motorcyclist collided head-on with an oncoming camper for reasons still unknown. The rider sustained severe injuries and was airlifted by Alpine Heli 6 to Salzburg State Hospital. The road was temporarily closed but reopened after cleanup.
On July 21 on the Wurzenpass in Austria, a motorhome driver slid off the road while turning. Another tourist held the vehicle with his truck until firefighters and a tow truck arrived.
On Tuesday afternoon, a motorhome driver attempted to turn around on a steep section of the B109 Wurzenpass Road, causing the heavy vehicle to leave the roadway and come to rest in a dangerous tilted position. Another tourist secured the motorhome with his truck, preventing it from sliding further or tipping over. The Siebenbrünn-Riegersdorf fire department arrived at the scene at 12:56 p.m., after which a tow truck recovered the vehicle with firefighter assistance. Police were also present.
In Türnitz, Lower Austria, a driver fell asleep at the wheel, left the road with his motorhome and plunged into the Türnitzbach stream. He was unharmed. The district police ranked third in the state for clearance rate in the first half of the year; two officers received an award for solving drug offences. A monitor was installed at the sports field in Lilienfeld to deter vandalism, and a reward was offered for information leading to the perpetrators.
