Regulator

Conseil de la concurrence and Ministere de la Transition energetique; after liberalization in 2015, retail is market-based but under strict antitrust oversight.

After subsidy removal, gasoline and diesel are priced on a market basis, but high network concentration and political sensitivity maintain strong regulatory oversight.

Taxes and levies

TIC, TVA 10%, import and storage logistics. For Q4 2024, Conseil de la concurrence assessed the structure as: cost of acquisition 46% gasoline and 54% diesel, taxes 38% gasoline and 31% diesel, gross distribution margins 16% and 15% respectively.

Subsidies

No subsidies on gasoline and diesel; household butane is separately subsidized and should not be confused with motor fuel.
