Gimcheon campsites launch loyalty program for repeat visitors

In South Korea, more people are choosing camping and 'chabak' (sleeping in a car) over overseas travel due to high airfare and fuel costs. This has led to increased campsite bookings and a rise in safety incidents and complaints. Beginners are advised to start with basic gear (tent, tarp, sleeping bag, lantern, stove, first aid kit) and use public campsites, which are cheaper and have facilities. Illegal parking and camping on private land, in protected areas, or on beaches can result in fines. When camping in mountains, avoid areas under cliffs and dry branches; on the coast, check tides and strong winds.

South Korean TV personality Lee Kyung-kyu, together with Hyundai Motor, unveiled the 'Chabak Expedition' (차박원정대) project tied to the FIFA 2026 World Cup. The first showcase took place on January 18. The project involves a motorhome journey covering 11 host cities of the tournament. Participants will use Hyundai vehicles equipped for camping, following the 'Next Starts Now' concept. Lee previously undertook a motorhome trip to the 1999 World Cup.

Glamping sites and caravans must be equipped with fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, residual-current devices, and emergency flashlights. In winter, tent ventilation openings must be kept open to prevent gas poisoning.
