Camper van expedition to Nara: report from km/h pop-up event

Honda has launched a special edition of its ZR-V SUV, the Cross Touring, designed for outdoor activities. The model features a spacious cargo area that can accommodate two bicycles and allows for overnight sleeping. Based on the e:HEV Z hybrid trim, it is available with front- or all-wheel drive, priced from ¥4,529,800.

The 'Camper Van Comparison Navigator' portal has published a ranking of the most viewed camper van and motorhome models in Japan for May 2026. The top 10 features mostly lightweight campers and vans, reflecting demand for compact and easy-to-drive vehicles. The Bug-truck Panel Van topped the list, followed by the DISCOVERY 1 and CORO. The ranking is based on search frequency, not actual rentals, but can serve as a guide for tourists planning to rent a motorhome in Japan.

The portal «キャンピングカー比較ナビ» released a ranking of motorhome models by page views for May 2026. The Bug Truck Panel Van (light camper) took first place. Compact kei-car and van-based models dominate the top 10. A rental discount campaign has also been launched.

Japanese manufacturer Anex Camping has launched the UTONE 500 model based on the Toyota HiAce. The interior is compared to a model room, with sleeping space for two adults and three children.

Kameoka City in Kyoto Prefecture has completed a dedicated car-sleeping evacuation shelter, 'Car Shelter Nomizu', in Yoshikawa Town. The facility covers about 10,000 square meters, accommodates 195 vehicles, and includes toilets, showers, and a disaster equipment warehouse. According to the city, shelters specialized for car sleeping are uncommon.

The fifth nationwide special of 'Nishimura Campground' will air on June 28, celebrating the 30th anniversary of comedy duo Biking. Guests include voice actor Shun Kimura and actress Yuno Nagao. Activities include clam digging, cooking paella and beef cutlets, and making roll ice cream with traditional vegetables. A surprise is planned for the duo.
