Inspector rules council's refusal of mobile homes was 'not well founded'

Avon and Somerset Police arrested a third suspect, a man in his 20s, on 18 June over an arson attack in Glastonbury on 13 June. The fire destroyed three caravans and severely damaged a Tesco supermarket; no injuries were reported.

A planning inspector dismissed Wayne Griggs' appeal, ruling his actions unreasonable. He must remove caravans, hardstanding, and other items from a site in Dibden within nine months. The inspector also partially awarded costs against Griggs. The New Forest National Park Authority stated his actions caused unnecessary time and expense.

In the UK, a suspect wanted for stealing a motorhome attempted to evade police by somersaulting off a bridge. The acrobatic move failed, and he was apprehended. The incident was captured on video.

A couple from Dorset bought a motorhome for €25,500, only to discover two days later that its permissible gross weight of 3,850 kg exceeds the limit for a standard driving license (3,500 kg). The dealer agreed to take it back but withheld €3,450, sparking a consumer rights dispute. A consumer rights expert stated the dealer may have violated the law by failing to disclose the weight issue, knowing the buyers only had a standard license. In the Netherlands and the UK, similar rules apply: driving a motorhome over 3,500 kg requires a C1 license.

Bridgend County Borough Council has confirmed it has initiated a legal process after several caravans gained access to playing fields at Litchard late on Monday evening. Council officers visited the site, informed the owners they are parked illegally, and are working with South Wales Police. The council is conducting mandatory checks and welfare assessments to ensure the safe removal of the caravans.

Members of Currie Star FC in south west Edinburgh have raised concerns after a group of caravans parked on their pitches without permission. Around a dozen caravans and other vehicles were spotted at Dovecot Park on Lanark Road. The community council has contacted the City of Edinburgh Council and Police Scotland about the unauthorised encampment. The club, which serves over 400 children, recently spent a six-figure sum on pitch upgrades and fears the caravans will prevent planned maintenance ahead of the new season.
