The Spanish government has amended the General Traffic Regulations, allowing motorhomes to park in urban centers on equal terms with other cars. The new rule, published in the BOE, clearly distinguishes permitted parking from illegal camping. To avoid fines, drivers must meet three conditions: not deploy elements beyond the vehicle's perimeter, maintain ground contact only through tires (wheel chocks allowed), and not discharge liquids outside. Municipalities retain the right to impose general restrictions but cannot ban parking exclusively for motorhomes and campervans. The reform responds to the growth of caravanning: the country has 365,000 such vehicles, including 96,000 motorhomes and 26,000 campervans, while infrastructure lags behind demand.
