Vehicle Excise Duty (UK road tax)

Legal & Registration United Kingdom

VED, Vehicle Excise Duty, road tax, car tax, motorhome tax UK, Private Light Goods, Private Heavy Goods

VED is the UK road tax every registered vehicle must pay. For motorhomes the rate is driven by maximum permitted weight rather than CO₂ emissions.

Motorhomes at or below 3,500 kg are taxed in the Private Light Goods band; above 3,500 kg they fall into Private Heavy Goods at a higher flat rate. That 3,500 kg line is the same threshold that governs driving licence entitlement, so crossing it changes tax and licence at once. VED is paid monthly, six-monthly or annually, and a valid MOT and insurance are required to renew.
