Sportsground set for RV and caravan trial
Overnight stays for self-contained recreational vehicles are set to return to a Sunshine Coast sportsground under a six-month trial. Beerwah Sportsground’s short-term camping facility permanently closed in May 2023 after the volunteer-run management committee dissolved. The trial will allow up to 12 sites for motorhomes and caravans equipped with their own toilets, showers and power. A council spokesperson said the trial followed strong support from the local business community, with fees intended to be competitive with similar facilities.

Mundi Mundi opens gates after rain disrupts camping

The inaugural Lismore Outdoor Adventure plus Home & Lifestyle Expo took place at the Lismore Showgrounds from 14–16 August, featuring caravans, camping gear, home improvement products and family entertainment. According to Tourism Research Australia, 5.5 million domestic caravan and camping visitors travelled to New South Wales in 2025, with the North Coast accounting for 26% of them. Nationally, domestic caravan and camping trips rose 14% year-on-year to 17.3 million. The data also shows that 43% of such visitors to NSW are in full-time employment, challenging the traditional grey nomad image.
Vintage caravan rentals surge in Australia
The number of pre-1980 retro and vintage caravans listed on the Camplify rental platform has increased by 110% over the past five years, with more than 1,000 now available nationwide. Camplify CEO Justin Hales says travelers, particularly young couples and families, are seeking authentic experiences over hotel stays. According to Motorhome Republic, a third of all campervan bookings this year were made by 18-to-34-year-olds.
