New rest area with showers and laundry planned on Slovakia's D1 motorway

A large category B rest area is to be built on the under-construction D1 motorway section between Hubová and Ivachnová. It will feature 42 parking spaces for cars, 49 for trucks, 8 for buses, and 2 for caravans, plus 6 EV charging points. Facilities for truck drivers include toilets, showers, a laundry, a kitchenette, and a ramp for removing snow and ice from vehicle roofs. Families will have a children's playground, rest areas, and a dog run. The motorway section is expected to open by September 2025, but the rest area's completion date is not yet set.

Hairpins, Freedom, and Starlink: Three Best Caravan Routes in Slovakia

Slovakia is experiencing a caravanning boom, driven by technology and a desire for autonomy. For beginners, the Spiš-Gemer-Malohont route offers developed infrastructure; for experienced travelers, Orava and Liptov provide mountain challenges; and for adventurers, the wild east from Bardejov to Michalovce offers pristine nature. Slovak law permits wild camping only above 1000 meters altitude and requires strict adherence to environmental rules.

World's smallest motorhome

Timon Bornhalm has built what is likely the world's smallest motorhome. The project is based on a microcar, classifying it as a self-propelled camper. Exact dimensions and technical specifications have not been disclosed, but the vehicle is aimed at minimalist living.

European Union eases rules for Category B driving licenses

The European Union is changing rules to allow Category B license holders to drive heavier vehicles. The new directive permits driving alternatively powered vehicles up to 4.25 tonnes instead of 3.5 tonnes and provides for obtaining additional authorization to drive heavy motorhomes after specific training. EU member states have four years to transpose these rules into national law.
