Car crashes into motorhome: Even the city cleaning service deployed

On Saturday evening at the intersection of Rheinberger Straße/Verbandsstraße in Moers, Germany, a motorhome collided with another vehicle. The 66-year-old driver and 67-year-old passenger of the motorhome were seriously injured; five occupants of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. Reports differ: the other vehicle is described either as a Mercedes Vito minibus or a passenger car. The crash is under investigation.

The tested Subaru Forester 2.0ie (2026) showed limited suitability for towing a caravan. It has a 136 hp petrol engine with CVT and electric motor, all-wheel drive, and 22 cm ground clearance. Weak acceleration, fuel consumption of 13.9 L/100 km while towing, and a small 48-litre tank reduce range. The 1200-euro towbar allows towing up to 1870 kg.

A caravan, a lawn mower tractor, and a loaded car trailer caught fire late Saturday night in Sontheim. Firefighters extinguished the blaze; no injuries were reported. Police are investigating the cause. Damage estimates are not yet available.

A Facebook discussion among motorhome campers revealed that most prefer simple wireless solutions for listening to the radio in the living area. The most common option is a smartphone and Bluetooth speaker. Alternatives include DAB radios, internet radios, and voice assistants like Alexa. No major modifications are needed.

In Stade, the access road to the motorhome site at Schiffertor has been completely renovated after repeated guest complaints about potholes and water accumulation. Operator SMTG paved the area and installed new drainage pipes. Work began in November 2025 and was completed in time for the season despite frost delays. The site remained open during construction. In 2025, the 79-space site set a record with 18,635 vehicle overnight stays.
