California RV trip: three national parks for $1,100

Three women traveled across California in a rented camper van for eight days, visiting Yosemite, Sequoia, and Death Valley. The total cost was $1,134 per person, covering rental, gas, groceries, and campsites. Gas was the biggest expense at $211 per person, with prices around $7 per gallon. According to RVshare, 60% of travelers in 2026 plan RV trips to save money.

RV Park construction in West The Dalles could move forward with $1 million state grant

Wasco County commissioners postponed a decision on redeveloping Oak Ranch RV Park while requesting additional financial analysis for the proposed $1.88 million project west of The Dalles. The project would create 48 full-hookup RV sites, tent sites, an ADA-accessible restroom and shower facility, and dark-sky-friendly lighting. A $1 million grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department requires an $884,900 local match. Annual campsite revenue is estimated at $190,000 based on 40% occupancy and an average nightly rate of $55.
