On May 29, 2026, a motorhome caught fire on the A6 motorway near Schwabach. The incident occurred in a construction zone, causing temporary closures and significant delays westbound. Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.
In Germany, owners of motorhomes and caravans must have their gas system inspected every two years. Missing the deadline can result in a fine. The inspection takes 20–45 minutes and costs 40–80 euros. Gas regulators, hoses, and cylinders must be replaced every 10 years.

A camper van caught fire on the A6 near Neuendettelsau (Ansbach district) on Friday afternoon. The motorway towards Schwabach was completely closed. According to police, no one was injured. The driver attempted to retrieve belongings from the burning vehicle and sustained burns, but managed to extinguish the flames himself. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are under investigation.
