St. Gallen Police to Offer Free Weighing of Motorhomes in Oberbüren

Petra and Rüdiger Erbslöh from Meerbusch have set off on a motorhome trip through Switzerland. The route includes the Rhine Falls, Zurich, Grindelwald and Zermatt. The TV show 'Wir werden Camper' will air their journey on June 7, 2026 on WDR.

The St. Gallen cantonal police are hosting a 'Camper Day' at the Oberbüren police station. Motorhome owners can have their vehicle's unladen weight checked for free to determine the actual remaining payload. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with experts from traffic police, road traffic authority, TCS, and Wohnmobilland Schweiz.

Heinz Hüsler presented his VW T3 Syncro, which he personally converted and upgraded over several years. The vehicle features all-wheel drive, a high roof, and clever details. The project showcases the customization potential of the classic van for camping.

The Swiss campsite association Swisscamps warned of potential shortages during peak season after the closure of 13 sites in Valais due to natural hazards and one in Bern for nature conservation reasons. Operators in the Fricktal region have so far felt little impact, as their clientele consists mainly of local tourists, transit travelers, and Dutch visitors. The decisive months for assessing the situation will be June, July, and August.

Swiss company Alpencamper has developed a lightweight caravan designed to be towed by an electric bicycle. The ECO Slide Out Flex model weighs about 59 kg, while the base ECO version weighs less than 40 kg. The caravan accommodates two people, features a bed up to 140 cm wide, a window, wind insulation, solar panels, and optional equipment such as a roof fan and portable power bank. The manufacturer emphasizes the eco-friendliness and flexibility of this travel method, which does not require a motor vehicle. Delivery to Europe takes 5 to 10 days.
