Conflict with Campers: Tents and Motorhomes in a River on Crete

A new police ordinance has come into effect in Greece, clarifying parking rules for motorhomes. Parking is permitted in designated areas, while wild camping remains prohibited. This aims to eliminate the uncertainty previously caused by strict regulations and high fines.

Companies All4Bus and Dammler are preparing to produce the all-wheel-drive Torsus Savage 4x4 motorhome. The 8.7-meter model, based on a MAN TGM 4x4 chassis, features a 285 hp diesel engine, 35 cm of ground clearance, and can ford waters up to 60 cm deep. Its base price will be around 550,000 euros.

Greek police published a clarifying ordinance in February 2026 that eliminates uncertainty in parking rules for motorhomes. Motorhomes up to 7.5 meters long can park in built-up areas without time limits where permitted for regular vehicles. Parking is allowed on the roadside outside built-up areas, but setting up camping equipment remains prohibited.

Greece has reversed a general ban on motorhome parking that was implemented in May 2025. Under a new police directive (No. 1246/26/351380), motorhomes up to 7.5 meters can park without time limits in inhabited areas, while longer ones are limited to 24 hours.
