PTAC — French gross vehicle weight rating

Weight & Dimensions France

PTAC, Poids Total Autorisé en Charge, French gross weight, GVWR France, MMA France

PTAC (Poids Total Autorisé en Charge) is the French equivalent of GVWR/MMA — the maximum permitted loaded mass of a motorhome or trailer, stated in field F.2 of the Carte Grise. Exceeding the PTAC is a €750–1,500 fine plus impounding of papers until a weighbridge weighing.

Most common motorhome PTACs on a Ducato: 3,500 kg (B licence), 4,250 kg (B96 + tracteur), 5,000 kg (C1). Downplating to fit a B licence and uprating to 4,250 kg via AL-KO or SLC are both possible. PTAC changes require a DREAL visit and a Carte Grise update. Drivers who held a B licence before 1996 may drive up to 7,500 kg without additional categories.
