Özel amaçlı taşıt (ÖAT) — Turkish special-purpose vehicle

Vehicle Types Türkiye

Özel amaçlı taşıt, ÖAT Türkiye, Turkish special-purpose vehicle, special-use vehicle Turkey, ÖAT karavan

Özel amaçlı taşıt (ÖAT) is the Turkish vehicle category for special-purpose vehicles — habitable (motorhome), office, ambulance, crane, etc. The Turkish equivalent of the EU special purpose vehicle (M1G/M1SH). Motokaravans are registered under this category.

On the ruhsat the «kullanım amacı» field reads «özel amaçlı taşıt — motorlu karavan». The status changes the applicable ÖTV rate, the kasko insurance tariff, and the set of traffic rules. Moving a van to the ÖAT category during conversion goes through a TSE 12257 engineer's report and a fresh ruhsat at the Trafik Tescil Şubesi. Without ÖAT status a converted van cannot be legally used as a camper — roadside police classify it as an «illegal modification».
