GAWR, Gross Axle Weight Rating, max axle weight, axle weight limit, front GAWR, rear GAWR
GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) is the maximum load the manufacturer allows on a specific axle of an RV or trailer. Most vehicles have separate GAWR-Front and GAWR-Rear values. Exceeding GAWR violates regulations and risks suspension, brake, or tire failure.
Listed on the Federal Certification Label inside the driver-door jamb. To verify real-world axle loads, weigh the rig axle by axle on a certified CAT Scale. Cargo placement, a weight-distributing hitch, and a towed trailer all shift load across axles. GAWR caps not only mass but also tires, wheels, brakes, and shocks — going over is unsafe.
