DREAL — French regional authority

Legal & Registration France

DREAL, Direction régionale de l'environnement de l'aménagement et du logement, regional French DREAL office, RTI homologation France

DREAL (Direction régionale de l'environnement, de l'aménagement et du logement) are the regional departments of the French Ministry of Ecological Transition. They handle the homologation of converted vehicles (RTI — Réception à Titre Isolé) and grant the VASP category for self-built campervans.

Procedure: submit technical files (plans, electrical and gas schematics, body photos), book the inspection, on-site appointment with a DREAL expert, issue of a certificat de conformité. Regional queue: 1–4 months. Without DREAL approval and an updated Carte Grise, the police can refuse registration as a "habitable vehicle" and insurance may refuse a claim after an accident.
