On 1 October 2026, Spain's updated traffic regulations, approved by Royal Decree 518/2026 of 24 June, came into force. The document introduces a dedicated section on urban mobility and sets a minimum age of 15 for riding e-scooters, a mandatory certified helmet and hand signals for turns. For motorhomes, it defines parking conditions for the first time: no protruding elements, standing only on wheels (safety chocks allowed) and no discharge of fluids from the living area. Municipalities may now charge differentiated parking fees based on vehicle size and environmental classification.

A former bank employee from Galicia, Juan Carlos Roca, took early retirement at 58 and bought a motorhome. Over ten years he has visited more than 60 villages in the Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España network, nearly half of the roughly 125 municipalities currently holding the label. The association, founded in 2010 and officially presented in 2013 with 14 communes, admitted four new villages in 2026, two of them in Galicia. Roca shared his experience with the regional daily La Voz de Galicia in May 2026.

From 2 to 4 October, Fontanar is hosting the KDD Camper 2026 gathering for camper enthusiasts. The event features concerts, master classes, dancing, a costume parade and a charity food drive. Caravan parking is set up at Plaza de la Villa, while musical performances take place at the covered court, which is closed from Thursday. Participation is limited to registered attendees.

According to operator CamperDays, in summer 2026 most motorhome bookings from Spain were for the United Kingdom (23%), Australia (17%) and Canada (15%). Within these countries, Edinburgh, Cairns and Calgary received the most bookings. Additionally, bookings in Latin America grew by over 130% between January and August 2026 compared to the same period last year, and the company added Guatemala to its list of available destinations.

Owners at the Villas Caravaning campsite in Cartagena are demanding a change in management due to worsening conditions more than a year after the campsite closed for tourist operations. According to Juan García, president of the residents' association, insecurity, squatting and lack of services have increased; there are no working communal toilets and security services are up in the air. During the summer, residents went without a pool, security and communal toilets. About 961 of roughly 1,300 owners have requested individual water meters. A preliminary hearing was held Thursday in Cartagena courts; earlier precautionary measures were denied, and new ones were filed last week. The trial is not expected until next year.

Spanish authorities have clarified rules for parking and camping of motorhomes on streets and roads to prevent discrimination compared to passenger cars. A motorhome cannot be prevented from parking where other vehicles of the same size can park; signs banning motorhomes are generally not allowed, but height restrictions or other obstacles applying to all vehicles of the same size may be introduced. When parking, it is prohibited to set out chairs, extend an awning, lower support legs or open side windows — that constitutes camping. The new rules take effect on 1 October 2026, though enforcement remains at the discretion of individual police officers.
